Oral Cancer Screening
In addition to doing everything we can to make sure your teeth stay in great condition, we will also check your mouth, face and neck for signs of oral cancer.
This disease is on the increase, with more cases being diagnosed each year, but it can be much easier to treat if caught early. That’s why we look for unusual swellings or other changes to your mouth during your routine check-ups.
Know the signs
It’s useful to get acquainted with your mouth and learn what it looks like so you can identify any changes that may need further investigation. These include:
- A sore area or ulcer that does not heal
- Pain when swallowing
- Red or white patches
- Odd lumps
- Raised lymph nodes
- Swelling in the jaw
Mouth cancer is strongly linked to certain lifestyle choices. Risk factors that have been shown to play a role in the development of the disease include:
- Poor diet
- Chewing tobacco
It’s important to attend regular check-ups so we can keep a watchful eye on your oral health. Even if you wear a complete set of dentures, it is advisable to have the soft tissues of your mouth checked annually for early signs of oral cancer.
